Medtronic CGM Systems: Complete Product Lineup

Medtronic is the world's largest medical device company and the only manufacturer that produces both insulin pumps and CGM sensors as an integrated system. The Guardian sensor line is designed primarily for use with Medtronic MiniMed insulin pump systems to enable automated insulin delivery, though sensors can also be used standalone.

Medtronic's Guardian 4 sensor is designed primarily as a component of the MiniMed 780G automated insulin delivery system rather than as a standalone CGM. This integrated approach means the Guardian 4 delivers its greatest value when paired with a Medtronic insulin pump, enabling the SmartGuard algorithm to automatically adjust basal insulin delivery based on predicted glucose trends. As a standalone device, the Guardian 4's 7-day wear time and 2-hour warmup period make it less competitive than the Dexcom G7 or FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus for patients who do not use a Medtronic pump.

Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT), headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, is the world's largest medical device company with over $32 billion in annual revenue. Founded in 1949, Medtronic pioneered the implantable cardiac pacemaker and has since expanded into diabetes technology, spinal surgery, and neuroscience. The diabetes division produces both insulin pumps and CGM sensors, making Medtronic the only company to offer a fully vertically integrated closed-loop system.
